A 14-year-old Texas boy was arrested at school after a teacher mistook a homemade clock for a bomb.

Ahmed Mohamed, who says he enjoys electronics, was not charged but was suspended from school for three days.

The incident occurred at MacArthur High School in Irving, Texas, and began when a teacher heard the clock beep, according to the Dallas Morning Newsnewspaper.

Mohamed was questioned by school officials and police who searched his belongings and handcuffed him.

The police said the clock was not a danger, but that it could have been mistakenly seen an explosive device.

The school issued a statement saying it always asked its “students and staff to immediately report if they observe any suspicious items."

Mohamed is the son of Sudanese immigrants, and his father, Mohamed Elhassan Mohamed, said the incident was due to the boy’s name, according to the paper.

Social media erupted with opinions and sympathy about the story using the hashtag #IStandWithAhmed.
