Obama to honor Stephen King, Sally Field with National Medals of Arts
The 2014 National Medal of Arts honorees are headlined by horror scribe Stephen King and Oscar-winning actress Sally Field.
President Barack Obama will present the National Medals of Arts in addition to National Humanities Medals on Thursday at 3 p.m. ET in an East Room ceremony at the White House. The ceremony will be streamed on WH.gov/Live.
King is one of the best-selling modern novelists. One of the most popular and prolific writers of our time, Mr. King combines his remarkable storytelling with his sharp analysis of human nature,” the announcement read. After learning he would be honored, King took to Twitter to express his gratitude.
Field won her two best actress Academy Awards for Norma Rae and Places in the Heart, but her advocacy work in women’s and LGBT rights were also noted in the announcement.
