Why I Will Not Respond Immediately To The EFCC Invitation – Jonathan’s Aide, Kuku

 Kingsley Kuku, a former special adviser to Goodluck Jonathan, has been recently summoned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission(EFCC) on allegations of fraud.

Reacting to the invitation, Kuku said that he would to appear before a team of interrogators for health reasons.
Premium Times reports that Kuku, who was Jonathan’s adviser on Niger Delta affairs, and two others are wanted by the anti-graft body over allegation of embezzlement and fraudulent diversion of funds running into hundreds of millions of Naira.

According to a source, the former presidential aide was directed to appear at the EFCC office on July 28, Tuesday.

However, Kuku informed the commission that the earliest possible date to respond to the invitation is September 30, as he is currently in the United States for medical care.


A letter, sent by Kuku’s lawyers to the EFCC, said that the former presidential aide was undergoing surgery on one of his knees.

“Our client is currently in the United States of America to, keep appointment with his doctors at the Andrew Sports, medicine and ‘Orthopaedic Centre LLC for surgery on one of his knees.
“He is expected back in Nigeria at the end of September, 2015 after the surgery and recuperation,” the letter, dated July 24, stated.

The lawyers assured the commission that Kuku would report to the EFCC as a “law abiding citizen” by 10.am on September 30.

Earlier this week,  the EFCC invited for questioning Toyin Saraki, the wife of the Senate president, Bukola Saraki, and Zaina Dakingari,  the daughter of former president Umaru Yar’ Adua.  Responding to the invitation

, Mrs saraki expressed her readiness to assist the commission with its inquiries over corruption allegations leveled against her.
